In April this year, Hyundai Mobis presented its investments for startups at the 4th Mobility Day, held in Detroit in the United States.

Based on its car production infrastructure, Detroit is emerging as a hub for new mobility companies, equipped with Artificial Intelligence and software, as well as production and quality control capabilities.

Mobis Mobility Day is an event where Hyundai Mobis presents its business vision and investment status to startups, universities and global investors.

The event was attended by promising local startups, invited by Hyundai Mobis, to debate emerging trends in mobility, with a special focus on the fields of robotics and clean technologies.

The event’s move from Silicon Valley (California) to Detroit (Michigan) took into account the recent growth in the brand’s customer base, which is now more concentrated in that region. The company also felt that by expanding investments and partnerships with promising local startups, it could develop advanced technologies together and thus promote its products more easily to future customers.

During the event, Hyundai Mobis presented its latest innovations in software-defined vehicles (SDV), electrification and automotive electronics under the theme “Mobis in Global”, with presentations on corporate vision, advances in open innovation and investment strategies. These presentations were given by employees of the Mobis Technical Center of America, providing an enriching and informative experience.

“It’s important to discover exceptional global startups and make strategic investments to warrant innovative technologies that will lead the paradigm shift in mobility,” said Mitchell Yun, investment manager at Mobis Ventures Silicon Valley (MVSV), the event’s organizer. “This year, we will expand our support for proofs of concept (PoC), including technological and commercial feasibility analyses, as well as strengthening our collaboration to anticipate the market.”

Mobis Ventures Silicon Valley

Hyundai Mobis launched Mobis Ventures Silicon Valley, its open innovation base, in Silicon Valley in 2018, and has already invested more than 200 billion won in startups in the past year. Also in 2024, the company made a new investment of 15 million dollars in the US semiconductor company Elevation Microsystems, and in 2020 it invested in Envisics from the UK, and is currently still collaborating with this company on head-up display technology (AR-HUD) based on augmented reality.

Hyundai Mobis continues to cooperate with companies with great potential in the key technological fields of future mobility, including Zendar, a company developing high-performance imaging radars for autonomous driving, LightIC, a LiDAR semiconductor company based on Artificial Intelligence, and Sonatus, a software platform company.
