- The In-Cabin Monitoring System (ICM) is designed to monitor the driver’s and rear seats and to check the child safety seat in the back seat.
- The in-vehicle camera collects data to analyze potential risks, provide alerts and thus help prevent accidents.
- The new system is able to identify and respond to various risk scenarios, such as drivers dozing off, using their cell phones, not wearing their seat belts or even the presence of forgotten children in the back seats.

Hyundai Mobis has developed the In-Cab Monitoring System (ICM), a technology that assesses the safety of passengers in the front and rear seats by identifying their posture, actions and biological signs. The new system can warn of careless driving behavior, such as sleep-driving and cell phone use, and even check that children in the back are properly secured in their car seats, helping to reduce accidents.
The system uses cameras to monitor passengers and software that analyzes posture, position and vital signs in real time, warning of risks with audible and visual warnings. More than ten scenarios have been developed in which the system can help prevent safety accidents, including using a cell phone or smoking while driving, taking your hands off the wheel, not wearing a seat belt and leaving small children unattended in the back seat.
This year, the company plans to enhance the medical assistance feature with a more detailed analysis of the driver’s vital signs, and accelerate the development of version 2.0, focused on meeting the needs of commercial fleets.
“With the advancement of automated driving technology, the demand for convenience features and in-vehicle safety technologies is greatly increasing. Hyundai Mobis will focus on developing highly accurate software capable of analyzing different physical structures of each passenger,” said Shin Kyu-chul, leader of Hyundai Mobis’ Electronic Control Development Group.
Hyundai Mobis’ In-Cab Monitoring System stands out for its superior performance compared to its competitors. At the last CES (Consumer Electronics Show), a technology fair that takes place annually in Las Vegas, in the United States, several companies presented similar solutions, but Hyundai Mobis was ahead of the game by completing the development of the technology. Now, with large-scale production ready, the company is prepared to meet demand from the European market.
The new technology is not expected to reach the Brazilian market.
