Hyundai Mobis opens software R&D Center in India

  • Following the opening of the Integrated Research & Development Center in Hyderabad in early 2025, the company is developing a standalone Software Center in Bengaluru, renowned for its concentration of IT companies.
  • Ensuring the recruitment of high-level local software talent to enhance the performance of its Indian R&D center, and opening a specialized branch aimed at diversifying and strengthening research and development operations.
  • The Bengaluru branch will develop essential components customized for global customers, including infotainment systems.

On December 8, Hyundai Mobis announced the opening of a software research branch in Bengaluru, considered India’s technology capital. The company plans to operate this new unit as a division specializing in software research, alongside its integrated R&D center in Hyderabad, established in early 2025, pursuing a dual R&D strategy that reflects regional characteristics.

Located in the state of Karnataka, Bengaluru is home to a software ecosystem composed of global IT companies, startups, and research institutions. Hyundai Mobis reportedly chose Bengaluru, known for its excellent software development environment, after analyzing potential bases across India to meet the growing demand for software R&D.

The creation of this specialized research base, structured according to regional particularities, also aims to attract and retain top talent. In India, languages, cultures, and professional profiles vary widely between regions, directly influenced by local industrial dynamics. In this scenario, global automakers and automotive suppliers have expanded their presence by establishing branches in major Indian cities, reinforcing the competitiveness and diversity of the country’s R&D ecosystem.

The company also took into account the concentration of many Indian customers in Bengaluru. By operating a branch in the city, the company plans to increase its global competitiveness.

Hyundai Mobis plans to use the Bengaluru branch as a center specializing in infotainment software. With the Indian automotive market transitioning from compact vehicles to mid- and large-sized models, demand for advanced electronic components such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is growing, driving the need for specialized software talent.

The new branch also allows Hyundai Mobis to adopt a more flexible local R&D strategy. The Integrated R&D Center in Hyderabad will continue to focus on establishing software strategies, collaborating with global research centers, and developing applications.  The Bengaluru branch will be responsible for hardware-related areas, such as structures that form the basis for implementing software functionality.

By expanding the scope of software development at these two centers, the company has established a platform development base capable of meeting the requirements of local global customers.

Increased global competitiveness

Hyundai Mobis has been strengthening its global competitiveness through the operation of strategic units, including factories and research centers, distributed throughout India. The company produces essential modules and components at its industrial hubs in Chennai and Anantapur, while the parts center in Gurugram ensures continuous supply for after-sales.

With its newly established branch in Bengaluru, Hyderabad leads software-focused activities, while Delhi and Chennai concentrate on quality operations and purchasing center activities, respectively.

At the same time, Hyundai Mobis is expanding and diversifying its global customer base in the country, with efforts aimed at expanding its order portfolio.

In Brazil, Hyundai Mobis does not yet have centers dedicated to software development, but continues to expand. The local operation focuses on solutions for the Brazilian market, with a team specialized in developing accessories and components that meet the needs of domestic customers. This strategy reinforces the company’s commitment to offering innovation and quality in all regions where it operates.
