Hyundai Mobis held the “3rd Mobis Mobility Day” on May 26, organized by Mobis Ventures Silicon Valley (MVSV), its open innovation investment center in North America. This large-scale event presented the company’s business vision and investment plans, aimed at global startups, academics and investors.
The aim of this initiative was to identify startups with innovative technologies in the mobility sector, such as software, autonomous driving and infotainment, and to warrant future strategic technological allies.
The event was attended by around 250 people, including pre-invited representatives from Silicon Valley startups, academics, investors and investment managers from global automakers.
Mobis Mobility Day is a platform for Hyundai Mobis to share its technological development status and vision for the future with local companies and showcase its future investment plans. Every year, Hyundai Mobis seeks business collaboration partners in Silicon Valley, a hub of resources, technology, talent and capital, to enhance its global technological competitiveness in the field of future mobility.
Green Mobility
The central theme of the event, “Green Mobility”, reflected the transformation of the global automotive industry towards electric vehicles. During the event, Hyundai Mobis highlighted its competitive advantage in chassis technologies optimized for electrified vehicle platforms, such as braking, steering and suspension systems. The company also emphasized its portfolio of essential components for electrification, including battery systems and power electronics (PE) modules.
The Silicon Valley investors who attended the event recognized that although the global market for electric vehicles has temporarily slowed down, the era of environmentally friendly vehicles is inevitable. They predicted that investments in innovation aimed at “sustainability” and “clean technology” in the automotive sector will continue to grow.
Mobis Ventures Silicon Valley
Hyundai Mobis created Mobis Ventures Silicon Valley (MVSV) in 2018 to respond to the rapid changes in the mobility ecosystem. Through MVSV, the company continues to identify and invest in promising startups in the future mobility sector and promote technological cooperation with local innovative companies.
MVSV’s local investment activities have produced positive results. In 2020, Hyundai Mobis invested in Envisics, a UK-based company, to collaborate on augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) technology. The company also maintains commercial partnerships with Zendar, a developer of high-performance imaging radars for autonomous driving; LightIC, an AI-based LIDAR semiconductor company; and Sonatus, a software platform specialist, continuing its collaboration on the key mobility technologies of the future.
