On May 18, Hyundai Mobis held the “5th Mobis Mobility Day,” the company’s flagship open innovation event, in Sunnyvale, United States. The gathering brought together local startups, global automakers, and representatives from the investment sector to share medium- and long-term business strategies, as well as to explore opportunities for collaboration and investment.

This year’s event centered on robotics and physical artificial intelligence. In addition to representatives from the mobility sector, the gathering saw significant participation from companies and developers in new business areas, highlighting the growing interest in these technologies. In total, approximately 400 participants attended—more than double the number from the previous edition.

With a focus on identifying global partners and expanding collaboration in the fields of robotics and physical artificial intelligence, Hyundai Mobis seeks to extend the open innovation already promoted in the mobility sector to new business areas, thereby strengthening its competitiveness.

Event Overview

The event featured presentations and networking sessions with local startups, investors, and representatives from Hyundai Mobis, demonstrating that robotics and artificial intelligence are key topics in Silicon Valley.

While IT and semiconductor startups previously focused on seeking investment opportunities, investors are now actively looking for promising companies with cutting-edge technologies in new business areas.

At the event, Hyundai Mobis shared its investment and R&D strategies in the field of robotics, while employees from the Hyundai Mobis Technical Center in North America also presented the company’s achievements in autonomous driving, Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), and electrification.

In particular, with the large-scale operation of the Hyundai Group’s Metaplant and orders from global customers in North America, the company engaged in in-depth discussions with representatives from local automakers.

Hyundai Mobis plans to hold another Mobis Mobility Day in Asia in the second half of this year. As the company takes the lead in building a global automotive component ecosystem in the field of robotics, it believes it is essential to establish cooperative relationships with promising global companies in regions beyond North America. Thus, Mobis plans to expand the open innovation it previously focused on in North America and Europe, while accelerating the early discovery of promising local companies in new business areas such as robotics and semiconductors.
