Hyundai Mobis is presenting a new technology for electric cars: it’s an integrated mechanism for the front of vehicles, maintaining the traditional grille design while reducing air resistance during travel. The front end refers to the front structure of the vehicle, where the headlights, grille and hood are located.
Several cutting-edge technologies have been incorporated into this integrated structure, including an aerodynamic system that reduces air resistance and improves electrical consumption efficiency. Standout features include a LiDAR – a system for detecting and measuring objects by means of lasers – which projects outwards only while driving, to preserve the design and integrity of the sensor, as well as an automatic charge recovery function.
This state-of-the-art technology is a pioneering example of improving vehicle performance, design, convenience, and construction.
Improvements in autonomy, design, and charging
The most striking feature of this new technology is a system that automatically opens and closes parts such as the grille and hood, reducing air resistance during high-speed driving. This system, which allows air to enter and exit after heat exchange, improves the cooling efficiency of the battery and controls airflow. This combined aerodynamic system increases the electric vehicle’s range by approximately 20 km.
In terms of aerodynamics, Hyundai Mobis has differentiated itself by maintaining the traditional grille design while improving aerodynamic performance. In addition, the integration of design elements such as LED lighting has further enhanced the development of this innovation.
The technologies have also been applied to enhance the harmony of the design, avoiding external contamination and impact on the sensors, which provides protection for the LiDAR and improves the marketability of the vehicle’s front design.
Another outstanding feature is the semi-automatic charging system. Simply plug in the charger to start the process and once fully charged, the charger is retrieved, and the lid of the charging area is closed automatically. This feature reduces the inconvenience of users finishing the process manually during charging, presenting a more cost-effective alternative.
A supplier of solutions focused on the core mobility technologies of the future, represented by electrification and autonomous driving, Hyundai Mobis is stepping up its efforts to enter new markets, accelerating its growth strategy.
All the technologies presented have yet to be introduced in vehicles sold on the Brazilian market.
